The providers and staff at Alaska Women’s Health, PC (AWH) are pleased you have chosen us and we would like to make your visit(s) as pleasant as possible. We hope that you will feel comfortable and secure with the care you receive.

At AWH we take a team approach to your care. We have physicians, nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, and nurses all working together to provide you with comprehensive personal attention. Each of these healthcare professionals has something special to offer and we encourage you to take advantage of their range of skills.

The physicians in our practice are Dr. Jan Whitefield, Dr. Cathy Gohring, Dr. Carol Mitchell-Springer, Dr. Kristin Murray, Dr. Katie Ostrom, Dr. Craig Hinkle, and Dr. C. Jane Wiggins.  Dr. Owen Bell also takes call with our physicians. Our certified nurse midwives are Colleen Carey, CNM and Cindy Bonney, CNM, LMT. Our nurse practitioner is Anita Powell, ANP.

All patients are asked for payment at the time of service. Some procedures require payment in full at the time of service, while other appointments require only your insurance copay and deductible at the time of service. Please ask a staff member for clarification if you have any financial concerns. To assist us in filing your insurance please remember to bring your insurance card(s) with you to your appointment. We are participating providers for Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO Programs, Aetna PPO Programs, Alaska Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare, and VA. If you have a PPO, HMO, or other provider specific insurance policy please call your insurance company to see if they will cover any services performed by our providers. All insurance policies are different and it is the patient’s responsibility to know her coverage.

Please complete the patient information sheet, health history forms, financial policy, privacy practices acknowledgement, and pay direct authorization and bring them to your appointment. All of these forms are available on our Patient Forms page. Also, please remember to bring your insurance card(s) to your appointment. This will save you time when you check in and will make your wait time as short as possible. If you have any pertinent medical records please be sure to bring them to your appointment or have them faxed to AWH prior to your appointment so that your provider has the records for review. If you are unable to keep your appointment we ask that you call us as soon as possible to cancel so that we might accommodate another patient.
