Our Providers - Jan Whitefield, M.D., Ph.D.

Jan Whitefield, M.D., Ph.D. has been working for Alaska Women’s Health for more than 26 years. With a varied educational background, Dr. Whitefield is a vital part of our organization. He has medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in physics from Pennsylvania State University, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico.
Dr. Whitefield is a Clinical Professor for the University Washington’s department of OBGYN and a Clinical Professor in OBGYN for the Alaska Family Practice Program. Dr. Whitefield has received multiple teaching awards over the years for his dedication to education.
Dr. Whitefield is very active in the Alaska Section of ACOG (the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) and a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and the Alaska Medical Society.
Dr. Whitefield’s civic activities include medical advisor to the Alaska Nurse Practitioners State Employees, the Alaska State Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program and for the Municipal STD and Women’s Health program. Dr. Whitefield also does outreach in Kodiak once a month since Kodiak lacks a full time obstetrician and gynecologist. Dr. Whitefield specializes in infertility.
He is an accomplished pilot and also enjoys singing for the Anchorage Concert Chorus.
